File Storage Service
The Division of Information Technology offers departments and individual faculty, staff, and students many options for file sharing and storage on Windows and Unix platforms. Central information technology resources at MU offer high-quality services that leverage a shared environment. Some of the benefits include:
- Eliminates the need for departmentally owned server infrastructure.
- Lowers the total cost of ownership.
- Provides resources that some departments may not be able to individually afford.
- Decreases the redundancy of equipment on campus and more efficiently uses resources.
- Increases time and resources departmental information technology professionals can devote to user support issues.
- Decreases the number of points of failure.
- Implements industry best practices.
- Eliminates the need for server-related training for departmental IT professionals.
The Division of IT also provides around-the-clock monitoring 365 days a year, a physically secure environment, timely hardware upgrades, backup/restoration services, and backup power. The minimum storage amount is 1 GB; there is no upper limit.
Students and individual faculty/staff may use Bengal for file storage. Please refer to the Web hosting page for more information about Bengal. (Bengal Web hosting and file storage are the same service.)
Fees
The fee for file services is .75/GB/month. File services include:
- Highest possible availability
- Quota management
- Two copies of online data in a disaster recovery configuration with tape backup
- Multiple client compatibility
- 24x7 server team support
Obtaining Service
To obtain file hosting service, please submit a service request form. You will need a MoCode to obtain service. Contact your Departmental IT Professional or call (573) 882-5000 for more information. Use the service change or service cancellation forms to modify or terminate file hosting service.
