MU Research NetworkThe MU Research Network (MU RNet), a network dedicated to research, supports high-performance, network-based applications. MU RNet, an on-campus high-speed research network, provides an environment for cutting-edge networking technologies not yet available on Mizzou TigerNet, the regular campus network. MU RNet funding comes from the Division of Information Technology, the MU Office of Research and prorated contributions from MU academic divisions.Bandwidth AvailableMU RNet supports a much smaller number of users so researchers benefit from increased bandwidth. MU RNet is a switched gigabit IP environment, offering speeds of up to 100 Mbps connection to the faceplate. Segments of MU RNet also support ATM protocols. Presuming necessary fiber optic service is in place, virtually any building on the MU campus can be connected.Review ProcessThe application and approval processes for MU RNet were developed by the Research Subcommittee of the MU Information Technology Committee, in consultation with the MU Associate Deans for Research. Connections to MU RNet are not intended as replacements for TigerNet and are only approved in cases where research projects require extremely high-bandwidth connectivity in order to meet programmatic objectives. Applications will be reviewed quarterly by the Research Subcommittee. Applicants will receive e-mail notification of the committee's decision and those with approved projects will be contacted by personnel from Research Support Computing, a unit of the Division of Information Technology, to set up their connection. All approved investigators will be required to submit an annual report to document use and substantiate the need for a continuing connection.Obtaining ServiceRNet applications can be downloaded and submitted via email. Please keep in mind that the material submitted helps the committee to determine your need for connectivity.
