Security Awareness Month 2009Schedule
Abstract: Meet the ISAM staff, learn more about the presentations that will be offered during the month, get familiar with the new and improved Make IT Safe website and much more. Abstract: What every user should know...Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime in the United States today! Learn common sources of information that criminals use in committing this crime and practical steps to take if you believe your information has been compromised. Abstract: Technical information about the Payment Card Industry's Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). All University credit card payment systems are required to undergo an annual verification of PCI DSS compliance and in some instances, quarterly inspections. This presentation will cover what the University is doing to comply with the standard. There will be a focus on the requirements for securing network attached payment card environments, including web applications and point-of-sale systems. Information on requirements for departments who utilize dial-up payment systems will also be included. Abstract: Who is your machine talking to when you are not around? Do you have a "secret agent" on the machine, communication with a botherder? Is your banking information even now winging its way across the Atlantic? Gone are the days of malware making your screen display upside down. Malware writers now want information, especially banking information. In this session, we will review where we started and where we are today in the evolution of malware and then we will discuss tools for finding and (maybe) cleaning up a malware infested machine. Abstract: What everyone should know about HIPAA, a fact packed overview of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Review of the implementation and compliance dates and implementation expectations of the various parts of HIPAA including Privacy, Security HITEC and ARRA legislation as well as related state and federal breach disclosure mandates. Abstract: Join a technical discussion of the structure of the MU network. Justin will go over the major security zones on the campus, describe the firewalls, IPS, VPN and the wireless network. Abstract: Discussion on Phishing and Social Networking, what you can do to protect you and your informaiton while using email, Facebook and other social networking sites. |
